employment Getting and keeping good craftsmen has been the biggest challenge for years. Because we do very high quality, custom-designed projects, we must have the best. Some we hire, most we grow. Our project managers have come up through the ranks with us. So have most of our foremen/job superintendents. Some have been with us for years. On the other hand, we have lost some good people. They leave to go to school, to follow their newly-promoted wives, for suburban homes and jobs and, occasionally, for other industry opportunities. We offer a decent benefit package, the most appreciated of which is our training program and steady year around work. Some of our top people and oldest employees started as laborers. They are now skilled team members and very loyal. Most important, I believe, is that our field people participate in regular problem-solving meetings, train their juniors, review all proposed changes in policies and procedures. We value their experienced and knowledgeable opinions. I cannot measure or quantify the value our people get from working on challenging projects, no two of which are ever the same. They work in the best neighborhoods in the city with talented and creative designers and discerning customers. Neil Peck and Barbara Rose Co-owners
